I have contacted support twice now for different reasons. Once was to request a callback for service cancelation and the other was to verify some contract details. Both times I was waiting less than a minute before being connected to a representative. Both representatives I talked to were clear about what steps I needed to take and asking if anything else needed clarification. After a few AI prompts, when I asked for a live agent, it did not try to deter me from getting one. After verifying my identity, the agent promptly understood my question. All my mail users were getting SSL certificate errors. The agent was able to recognize it right away; it was a backend SSL certificate error. Was able to recreate the SSL certificate, and the error was fixed.

We have done business with HostGator for more than a decade, and while things have gradually changed over time, one thing that has remained constant is their commitment to outstanding customer support. While they now offer phone support, I find that it's sometimes easier to be able to link to webpages and make sure that both parties have the time to review and look over case details and such in live chat, which I grew used to over the years. I've been on HostGator shared hosting since mid 2005. There have been small downtimes here and there but overall it's been very stable. My site is custom php and uses a ~2 GB mysql database. Performance seems overall good. I've always had SSH access so I am satisfied with the control I have since I can use ssh/scp scripts to deploy my site and do some maintenance. They removed the ticket system some years ago and while it is a little frustrating to use a Chat interface the few times I had to use it they resolve the issue. Today there was a small issue with SSH jailedshell access after they did a planned server update (which was notified in advance by email). Took 20-30 minutes but it was solved. The price did increase substantially... many years ago it was like 15 USD now its close to 30 but I guess thats the same everywhere.
